Learning to fly

I have but it seemed very expensive to me. I have found out just by coincidence that it is quite affordable even for a student like me.

My flatmate has been interested in taking flying lessons since he was a little and he contacted BASAIR Company here in Sydney for more information.

BASAIR provides various courses from flying small aeroplanes to licences for large commercial aircrafts. It caught my attention and I decided to join my flatmate Laco and his wife Eva on the way to Bankstown Airport where BASAIR is situated. Eva wanted to be a witness of another possible plane crash....... :o)

Laco and I took 2 separate Introduction half an hour flights in the price of $70 for me, and $50 for him. Laco exchanged a couple of letters with the company and as he showed his interest they sent him gift voucher in the value of $20 against the price of introductory flight.

It was quite chilly and very windy that day though but it was still sunshine.

Laco went first. When he returned after an hour I spotted his smiling happy face and I knew it was my turn then. My instructor Paul and I got to a little aeroplane not bigger than a car. Sorry just joking.... Of course it was bigger but only two-seater plus some space for luggage. Interior suited to two skin human beings. We quickly got to a runway and took off within a seconds. As soon as the take off was completed Paul showed me what to push and turn and pull and I was suddenly a “pilot” for whole 20 minutes. It was very nice and uplifting feeling that is very difficult to describe as you can imagine. It was beautiful up there in the sky despite the fact that it was very windy. Sometimes the plane seemed uncontrollable. :o)

It impressed me as well as Laco but the completion of General Flying Progress Test including GST costs between $3800 and $5200 depending on several variables, including how often you fly. It is also recognised in most countries around the world.

It would be nice to own one of those pilot licences and to rent an aeroplane for around $100 per hour of flying and to set off for a day trip to surrounding areas such as Hunter Valley or anywhere in Australia, don’t you think? :o)
